Research That Demonstrates That Higher Cell Counts Measured by CFU-f Have Better Outcomes

Hernigou et al Percutaneous Autologous Bone-Marrow Grafting for Non-Unions
This work demonstrates that you need at least 1500 CFU-f per mL to treat a non union through percutaneous injection of marrow aspirate. Non Unions that had below this minimal dose were failures. Only CFU-f per mL of the aspriate rose to statistical significance.

Hernigou et al Biologic augmentation of rotator cuff repair with mesenchymal stem cells during arthroscopy improves healing and prevents further tears: a case-controlled study
This work demonstrates a positive dose response for CFU-f per mL to augment treatment of osteonecrosis of the hip using core decompression. Grafts that had a significantly higher failure rate had lower CFU-f per mL in the graft.
